Understanding how to properly complete your vehicle defect sheet

Before Taking Over a Vehicle

A defect check must be done before taking over any vehicle. If any parts could not be checked due to weather, lighting, or other conditions — those parts must be checked at the earliest convenience.

After an Accident or Symptoms

A full walk-around check and defect check must be done and recorded after any accident (even minor), or when there are symptoms of a defect such as warning lights on the dashboard.

Minimum Frequency

Defect check must be performed at least once every 24 hours — but more often in cases of: symptoms, new vehicle takeover, accidents, breakdowns, and after repairs.
